In 2019, Sodexo launched a pilot program across 13 universities, establishing “Meal Swipes Banks” for students facing food insecurity to access. Following this successful pilot program, which provided more than 15,500 meals for 1,100 students in one semester, Sodexo announced the expansion of its Meal Swipe Bank to 100 U.S. campuses by the end of 2021.

The second largest food service provider in the country became the founding funder of our Research & Development Lab, which seeks to surface and promote high impact, innovative solutions to address campus hunger. This includes piloting cutting-edge programs on campuses, leveraging data and research, and developing advocacy strategies to catalyze public funding for higher education basic needs programs.

In December 2020, Swipe Out Hunger, Chegg, and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation released a report on college student food insecurity during the pandemic, suggesting college students are experiencing increased levels of food insecurity, job loss, and financial stress.

CampusWorks, a higher education transformation firm, launched a community fundraising campaign to provide meals to students in need. CampusWorks’ Holiday Food Drive drew generous contributions from the company’s team members, family, friends, clients, and partners. The firm’s Board of Directors kicked off the campaign with a dollar-for-dollar.

The technology company who operates the ID card services on hundreds of campuses eliminated the logistical challenges of transferring meal swipes by developing functionality within their GET CBORD Student app to allow students to instantly donate their leftover meals to their peers who are facing food insecurity on campus.

In 2019, Soylent launched a 1:1 campaign: meaning for every bottle purchased, Soylent made a donation to Swipe Out Hunger. They also hosted our 2019 Student Summit and provided products to our campuses.
