University of Mary Hardin-Baylor

About the program

On a designated day near the beginning of each semester, our food service company, Sodexo, hosts a Share-A-Swipe event in the Bawcom Student Center.  Students on a meal plan can choose to donate one of their “swipes” towards purchasing food for The Source, the UMHB campus food pantry.  Sodexo matches the cost of the donations, and further helps by purchasing food from their vendors for the pantry.

Are you experiencing food insecurity on campus? Check out our Campus Resources section below for information on the UMHB Food Pantry, The Source.

Program Roots

The UMHB campus food pantry, The Source, opened in February 2019. To help obtain food to initially stock the pantry, Sodexo, our campus food service company, offered to host a Share-A-Swipe event. They have continued to be very strong supporters of The Source. The Source was a goal of the student organization, Enactus. The members and the faculty sponsor, Dr. Terry Fox, worked for several months to establish a campus food pantry. This effort began as a result of the need identified through a survey of our students which indicated that over 40% had been food insecure at some point over the previous year.
