ABOUT THIS INITATIVE
Swipe Out Hunger launched this free digital, 1:1 referral service to help CUNY students access food and other basic necessities during this critical time. This innovative model employs and trains CUNY students to serve as navigators, where they connect their peers to food benefit programs and other campus and community resources.
HISTORY OF THE STUDENT NAVIGATOR MODEL
In response to the pandemic, Swipe Out Hunger partnered with Rise to launch the Student Navigator Network. Throughout 2020 this program supported over 7,000 students nationwide who were facing added hardships due to the pandemic, while reducing the stigma often associated with seeking assistance.
