Swipe Out Hunger California Summit

On August 13th & 14th Swipe Out Hunger will host a gathering of leaders and influencers working to end hunger amongst California college students. 

It will be held in downtown Los Angeles' Arts District. Please complete the form below!

    A: Yes, University of California, Santa Barbara currently has the Swipe Out Hunger Program. The greatest strength of the program is being able to give each student a free meal ticket to the dinning commons when they are not financial secured. The program works well on the UCSB campus.

    A: I know someone who has an opinion of swipe out hunger. She is the director of The ASUCD Pantry at UC Davis, and as a fellow volunteer at The Pantry I am hoping to accompany her to this summit.

    A: I am not entirely familiar with the SWIPES program at UCR yet. However, from what I have experienced the program seems very flexible and able to adjust to meet the needs of UCR as well as finding ways to collaborate with multiple programs.

    Q: Do you know about the Swipe Out Hunger program on your campus?

    A: $11,151.00 was collected during the Fall 2015 Swipe Out Hunger Drive at UC Davis alone, with an additional $7,263.00 during the Spring 2015 drive. It’s a positive and scalable way to increase aid to students in-need, while empowering other students to help their campus community.

    A: We tackle food insecurity in different ways: by providing CalFresh application assistance, building up a food pantry, educating our community about food insecurity, purchasing emergency aid grocery store gift cards, etc. However, we also face the challenges of budgets and space for a pantry.

    A: I am the Los Angeles staffer for Challah for Hunger. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Swipe Out Hunger programs on the campuses I advise, but am very excited to learn more.

    A: UCLA, USC, CSUN, LMU, Occidental College directly as the chapter advisor for those schools. The expanded Challah network also includes UCSD, UCSB, UC Santa Cruz, UC Davis, and UC Berkeley

    A: I am interested in starting this program this upcoming year as a Food Security Commissioner, ASUCI.

    A: We don’t have one at UCI, but we would like to establish one soon. I work at UCI as the Food Access & Security Coordinator and I will be working with and advising student leaders to start the program on campus.
