Swipe Out Hunger was established at Lamar University in the fall of 2018 by Madison Marino in partnership with Chartwells Dining Services, the Dean of Students Office, and Cardinal Pantry.
On an ongoing basis throughout the year, students can stop by the dining halls to donate meal swipes to support Swipe Out Hunger. Students with the Weekly 14 or Weekly 10 will be able to donate all of the remaining meals at the end of each week. Students with the Semester 90 or Commuter 50 will be able to donate as many of their meals as they wish during the semester. Students with the All-Access Plan will be able to donate one meal per week, as they have an unlimited amount. These accumulated meal swipes will be reallocated to other students who are at risk of facing food insecurity, as identified by the Cardinal Pantry and Financial Aid.
In addition students can stop by select retail locations to donate unused dining points towards purchasing care packages for the Cardinal Pantry.
Students who are interested in receiving more information about meal assistance options can contact Cardinal Pantry or fill out this form on the cardinal pantry website.
