College of Charleston first launched their Swipe Away Student Hunger campaign in the fall of 2016 with a mission of assisting students facing hunger. At the end of each semester, students can donate leftover dining dollars and meal swipes at cafeteria registers to support their peers. Students facing food insecurity can apply for meal assistance through the Office of the Dean of Students, where eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis.
The program operates in strong partnership between the Student Alumni Associates, Alumni Affairs Office, Financial Aid, Student Affairs, and Aramark Dining Services.
The Fall 2017 campaign, which ran from Nov 27- Dec 1, raised $7,490 in monetary donations, $485. 02 in donated dining dollars, and 6,954 in donated meal swipes, which is equivalent to $51, 668!
